366TAS: 6:56 – Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms

An “hourlong” television drama tends to have about 42-44 minutes of actual footage once you take out the commercials and such. So for an episode to dedicate five and a half minutes to a song and its corresponding montage is pretty unusual and hopefully memorable. The season two finale of The West Wing was just that, as it moves the show beyond the Whedon-esque death of Mrs. Landingham and resolves the question of whether President Bartlet will run for a second term in office, wrapping up with a lengthy scene set to the Dire Straits’ “Brothers in Arms”. Basically, this is what I think of whenever I hear this song anymore…
