Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is undoubtedly the song of the year for 2012. That’s not to say that it’s the best song of the year; it’s certainly not, but there’s no denying it swept the world this summer with everyone from Sesame Street to the US Olympic swim team posting their renditions to YouTube for the world to see.
While preparing for the release of his latest album, America (whose track, “USA III: Rail” also clocks in at 6:30), Dan Deacon also took timeout to partake in our newest pastime, rendering his own version of “Call Me Maybe” that features Carly Rae Jepsen… several times over. Hey, if hearing the song once is good, hearing it lots of times has to be even better, right? Right? The answer, as it happens, is a definitive yes. Then again, maybe that’s just the touch that Dan Deacon has, because he makes lots of things sound good. America is a fine album and “Get Older”, from 2009’s Bromst is pretty hot too.
