366TAS: 6:15 – Elton John – Tiny Dancer

I don’t see a whole lot of movies, so you can take my opinions on the subject with a certain grain of salt, but Almost Famous has to be one of the best rock and roll movies of all time (along with School of Rock, Walk the Line, High Fidelity and probably more that I haven’t seen). Every time I hear “Tiny Dancer”, the first thing I think of the the tour bus singalong from Almost Famous that is, as the video suggests, one of the best scenes of the film. At that point in the story, the band had encountered some hardships on their tour, most recently a falling out over their t-shirt design. The mood wasn’t good and people were tired and upset with one another. Then Elton John’s song played on the bus and one by one, the touring party starts to sing along. By the end of the song, they’ve come back together, reuniting over the shared love of music, specifically “Tiny Dancer”.

Bringing people together is one of the great things about music and the scene does a fine job to illustrate that. The scoring was especially great because “Tiny Dancer” is a wonderful song that everybody loves. Well, except maybe for this guy, who really hates it when people sing the mis-heard lyrics at karaoke. It just makes him sad and confused. Let’s just hope he doesn’t try to start a rap career of his own…
