Driving back from Pittsburgh one cold December night, I was really, really tired. Not “sleepy” like when you have a hard time keeping your eyes open, but just really mentally fatigued and finding it difficult to concentrate on what I was doing (ie: driving). I went through my typical routine of things to do to stay awake while driving, but still, it was tough to stay focused on the task at hand.
I put on the old reliable driving CD, Nick at Nite Goes to Outer Space to get me through the last few miles. As I was getting off the Beltway, “Rapture” came on and by this point, I had the window down and I’m singing and dancing along full force in the driver’s seat. In Bethesda, I pulled up to a stoplight, completely oblivious to the girls next to me laughing in amusement as I’m throwing down an epic performance of the Blondie classic. Eventually, they rolled down the window and congratulated me on my skills and moved along. We all got a good laugh out of it and most importantly, I made it home without further incident.
