I would like to take this opportunity to thank the libraries of Georgia for hiring friends of mine and for NOT hiring Ernest Greene. Consider Greene’s case: one day, he’s an unemployed guy with a master’s degree in library science, the next day, you’re a rock star. That’s basically what happened when he couldn’t find a librarian gig, moved home to Perry, Georgia, started making music in his bedroom, and was discovered by bloggers. Next thing you know, Washed Out (Greene’s stage name) is playing the Pitchfork Music Festival, signed to Sub Pop records and doing the theme song for “Portlandia”. Not a bad year! As you can no doubt tell, we’re gently easing our way back into the world of lyric-ed music here. “Eyes Be Closed” is a similarly-styled chillwave track with lots of atmosphere and de-emphasized lyrics. It seems like just yesterday I was talking about this kind of track being like catnip for me. Oh that’s right, because I was!
