366TAS: 4:27 – Tom Cochrane – Life is a Highway

As we move out of the prime times for the golden age of hip-hop, it’s only appropriate that we would first go through Tom Cochrane’s “Life is a Highway.” After all, it was the summer of 1992 when my listening habits moved from hip-hop to more rock-oriented music. Back then, MTV still played music and some of the songs they played there were instrumental in my musical evolution were in heavy rotation at the time. One of the songs at the forefront of my new rock movement just happened to be “Life is a Highway”, which is funny because it didn’t really fit in with its breakout grunge contemporaries.

Nevertheless, the song was great and it continues to be excellent today, despite all the unfortunate cover versions, commercial overexposure and so on and so forth. Oh, and in case you’re wondering why the signposts in the highway of your life are in kilometers per hour, it’s because Tom Cochrane is Canadian. Maybe that’s why so many people I come across always seem so confused…
