My driving history contains four speeding tickets. Only one has come in the last decade, that coming four or five years ago on I-270 around Germantown while I was coming back to DC from the Christmas vacation. Before that, there was the ticket I got while driving up to Erie, Pennsylvania on business for the nonprofit that I worked for and the ticket I got for going 80 in a 70 zone just outside of Burgaw, North Carolina coming home from an ultimate tournament in college.
My first speeding ticket, however, came in 1996 just after I had returned from my freshman year of college. I was on my way out to Burgettstown to the ampitheater formerly known as Star Lake to see Steve Miller and the Doobie Brothers. I always took the back way to Star Lake, taking route 50 through Cecil to route 18 that would take you up to Star Lake (and route 22). Sure enough, it was that trip up 18 through Burgettstown that earned me a my very first speeding ticket. … and so to this day, the city of Burgettstown taking my money and running is always the first thing that I think of when I think of the Steve Miller band.
