366TAS: 3:50 – John Fogerty – Centerfield

It’s no secret that Corsairs Affairs was originally founded to be a baseball blog, specifically focusing on the Pittsburgh Pirates (a “corsair” being a certain type of pirate; see what I did there?). Both consciously and not, I’ve dialed back on the baseball following. What can I say? Following the Pirates can be tedious! Actually, I still subject myself to the Sisyphean ordeal of Pirates baseball quite a bit, it’s the wider baseball world that I’ve been less focused on, especially since I gave up playing fantasy baseball.

I’ll still talk about ’em from time to time, but clearly this has turned into a music-oriented blog, at least for the foreseeable future. But what better way to combine the two subjects than by rolling out John Fogerty’s classic baseball anthem, “Centerfield”? What else ranks up there in the baseball song hierarchy? “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” for sure. Dave Frishberg’s “Van Lingle Mungo” is a favorite as is The Mountain Goats’, “Cubs in Five.” More suggestions?

  1. John says:

Try the two albums by The Baseball Project, as well. Because of the video, John Mellencamp’s “Authority Song” is more of a boxing song, but it’s my 3:50:
