366TAS: 3:26 – Plushgun – Let Me Kiss You Now (And I’ll Fade Away)

By my forecast, we’ll have 11 songs this year that include parentheticals in their title. Three of them just happen to be in a row. In any case, this is a song – and for that matter, a band – that I would have totally missed out on if it weren’t for my buddy Josh who’ll periodically put together excellent mixes and send ’em out to cool kids (like me). Although most people I talk to have never heard of half the stuff I listen to, there’s a lot out there that I don’t know (and Josh does). Word of mouth is a great way to hear about up-and-coming bands (or anything else, really), so having someone to help you out with references is great. That’s especially true if your tastes are offset enough that you might not be listening to the same things in the first place (which isn’t likely, in most cases).

One of the main points of this whole project is to introduce some of my readers (that are hopefully out there!) to new stuff. I’m always happy to make suggestions though and if you like something you hear here or if you just want other ideas for bands to try, let me know (and I’ll recommend away).

I’ve got the Looking Glass’s “Jimmy Loves Mary-Ann,” the follow-up to the parenthetically-titled “Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl),” and in the same league as far as quality ’70s lounge-pop goes:
