Back when I outlined the details of this little project, one of my caveats to the list was that I was going to avoid including remixes. I acknowledged it’s an arbitrary rule and for this case, I’m going to break it. Just like the Black Star album featured yesterday, Lyrics Born’s Shame Shit, Different Day is one of my favorite hip-hop albums of the last decade. Despite being a remixed version of Lyrics Born’s album, Later That Day, the general consensus seems to be that this is the rare case where the remix album outshines the original.
Standing out from a group of strong tracks, however, is the Young Einstein Hoo-Hoo mix of “Do That There.” Basically, the whole thing is a nonstop string of crazy ridiculous rhymes that make you want to replay the song over and over and over again until you catch all the references and transitions that Lyrics Born makes as he flows through. It’s awfully impressive.
