Every now and then, I’ll hear a song for the first time and say something like, “Whoa! What was that? That was awesome!!” This is basically how impressed and blown away I was when I heard “Come Out and Play” for the first time back in 1994. Naturally, I ran out and picked up the Offspring’s big hit album Smash, contributing to its 16 million sales, a record for a band on an independent label.
My favorite bit of Offspring trivia would be that lead singer Dexter Holland has a master’s degree in molecular biology. He was a Ph.D. candidate in the field as well, before leaving the program to concentrate on the band instead. It’s awfully hard to argue with the results.
