366TAS: 3:13 – Phoenix – 1901

We’re going to round out indie rock week the way we rang it in: with a four-digit numerical hit song that you may have heard in a commercial from an band hailing from abroad. Phoenix was one of those bands that had a bit of success back when I was in law school, but then really hit it big with 2009’s, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. I wasn’t really making lists back then, but if I were, “1901” would have been one of the year’s top tracks.

If you’re keeping score on the countup’s France watch, this is the second of (at least) five French acts we’ll see this year. What they lack in quantity, they make up in quality!

    I figured that one of the songs from “Wolfgang” would show up on your list…

    My 3:13 is one of my favorite songs from 2008 (as well as the entire decade/century/millennium…), Santigold’s (although Santi White, who is about our age and grew up on the other side of the state from us in Philadelphia, was going by “Santogold” back then…) “Lights Out”:
