366TAS: 3:08 – OK Go – This Too Shall Pass

OK Go made a name for themselves with their videos. Make no mistake, their music is good, but their videos are fantastic. You may have seen the one they did for “Needing/Getting” that was the backdrop for a Chevy Sonic commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. Before that, they did a series of videos that went viral involving dancing on treadmills, performing with dogs, and the video for “This Too Shall Pass,” featuring a giant Rube Goldberg machine. I don’t care if you don’t like the music here (although you will, it’s another readily accessible track), but do check out the video here to see the machine in action. Then watch it a few more times to see all the details you missed the first few times through. It’s quite impressive.

At the 2010 Pitt-Notre Dame football game that I attended in South Bend, ND’s marching band played “This Too Shall Pass,” and OK Go joined them on the field.

My 3:08 is another one of my favorite videos from the Obama years: “Jack Sparrow” by The Lonely Island (Feat. Michael Bolton).

Probably the most I’ve enjoyed a comedy track since Al Yankovic parodized Michael Jackson…
