If I felt like being clever, I could have made a couple last-minute alterations to my plan this week to accommodate songs relevant to things actually going on in my life recently. Freedy Johnston’s “Moving on a Holiday” would have been a fine pick at 2:56 because I spent that afternoon driving up to western Pennsylvania to help mom pack so that she could move down to Florida for her new job. Of course, she actually hit the road on Saturday, my brother’s birthday… “Moving on a Holiday.”
The other big thing going on this week, of course, has been college basketball’s Championship Week and the ensuing NCAA tournament. My alma mater’s presence as a team to watch this month would have made “Orange” by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion a logical, timely pick right about now. Since they checked out of the Big East tournament early, however, there isn’t a whole lot to celebrate today. Hopefully it’s because they have their eyes on the big prize that gets handed out in early April. I know that I would rather be celebrating then.
These two big things going on are also why I’ve fallen a bit behind on the posting schedule lately. The “good news”, such as it is, is that I’m not working right now since my last project ended about a week and a half ago. Hopefully, another one will start up soon, but this isn’t a bad time of year to have some free time on my hands. Hey, and here’s Mates of State with “My Only Offer.”
