366TAS: 2:57 – Vampire Weekend – Campus

In the general trend towards longer songs, Vampire Weekend is an exception. So far, they have put out two full-length albums. Those two albums timed out at 34:11 and 36:40, respectively. In other words, you can burn both albums to one CD and still have about nine minutes left to spare. I was a little surprised when I discovered this, but hey, it makes it that much easier to pick which CDs to take in the car for a road trip.

Also, I’ve heard a theory that Vampire Weekend is a band that lots and lots of people like, but nobody really loves. I can buy this, but are there any huge VW fans out there who care to disagree?

I can’t say that I’ve ever encountered a crazy VW fan, but, then again, I may not be part of the target demographic. I liked “Oxford Comma” and “A-Punk,” but, overall, their sound seems a little too precious for my tastes.

My 2:57 comes from a Cleveland band on a Pittsburgh label: “Mirror Mystery” by the Rainy Day Saints, who I saw with their Get Hip Records labelmates at the Rex Theater on the South Side about half a decade ago. The video captures them in their natural habitat of Cleveland:
