366TAS: 2:18 – Louis Armstrong – What A Wonderful World

Cookie MonsterHelpful karaoke tip: do not sing this song. If you really, really must, however, do NOT try to sing this song with the same voice that Louis Armstrong uses to sing this song. You can’t do it. You’ll end up sounding like Cookie Monster and everyone in the bar will be making the comparison because it will be THAT obvious. “And I think to myself… what a wonderful COOKIE!” That’s what you’ll hear. I mean, try it out in the comfort of your own shower… you’ll see what I’m talking about.

What’s really remarkable is that Louis Armstrong himself sounds almost nothing like Cookie Monster, but as people strive for Louis, they’re always diverted along the same path. Take a listen, sing along, then scarf down some delicious cookies! NOMNOMNOM!

One ’60s song used in an ’80s military movie (“Good Morning, Vietnam”) deserves another: the Crystals’ “Da Doo Ron Ron” (as heard in Harold Ramis’ ESL classroom in “Stripes”).
