366TAS: 2:11 – The Byrds – Mr. Spaceman

Any time I get in the car to take a road trip – whether it’s just a quick two hours down to visit family in Richmond or a five state expedition through the southwest, I make sure to have a nice stash of tunes on hand. Good music can make any drive a compelling experience all its own that reminds us that the journey can be as enjoyable as the destination. That being said, not all good music is appropriate for a drive and there may be some tunes that are best enjoyed behind the wheel.

A long time ago in a bargain bin far, far away, I stumbled across an album that Nickelodeon put out called Nick At Nite Goes To Outer Space. As you might suspect, it was an outer space-themed compilation featuring lots of songs that reference aliens, spaceships and other cosmic debris. I never gave the album a whole lot of listening time when I was at home, but it always proved to be a worthwhile choice for a spot in the CD wallet when I’d be going for a drive. The album is is actually full of solid tracks, but for whatever reason it fell into this strange little niche. Anyway, The Byrds’ “Mr. Spaceman” was always a fave from this compilation. We’ll talk about some more great road trip music later on…

I’ll go with “Tequila,” by the Champs (more of a bar-dancing song than a road trip song):
