366TAS: 2:01 – Dick Dale & The Del-Tones – Mr. Eliminator

Growing up in Pittsburgh in the early-to-mid-90’s, my go-to radio station was WDVE. One of ‘DVE’s calling cards was the morning show with Paulsen and Krenn. While they brought many characters to life on their show, one of the more popular ones in my household was superhero extraordinaire, N’atman. N’atman heroically kept the city safe from the terrors of Magnificent Monique, Weather Girl and The Piddler.

Now perhaps you remember these sketches well, but did you know what the background track that played during the intro was? Well I’ll have you know that it was “Mr. Eliminator” by Dick Dale & The Del-Tones – the same guys who brought us “Misrlou” – better known as the music from the opening credits of Pulp Fiction. Knowledge! Woo hoo! Anyway, I can’t hear “Mr. Eliminator” anymore without thinking of the old Paulsen and Krenn morning show. Anyone else?

I’ll go with “Can’t Stand It,” an instrumental from Atlantic saxophonist/Tragar & Note Records founder J.J. Jones, from the “Eccentric Soul: The Tragar & Note Label” compilation.
