If there’s one bit of music I wouldn’t want to play in questionable weather like I wrote about yesterday, it would be anything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You see, my old car experienced a pretty fair amount of bad luck when RHCP albums were in the CD player.
First, someone smashed in the passenger side window and stole my stereo while I had been listening to “One Hot Minute.” A couple years later, I was driving down the street listening to “What Hits?!” when I noticed some white smoke in the air. Next thing I knew, I noticed that the smoke was coming from under the hood of my car. Then as I pulled over, the white smoke turned to black.
Naturally, I was driving through a kinda sketchy part of Pittsburgh (Homewood) when it happened and when I called 911 from a payphone, I got the message “Thank you for calling the City of Pittsburgh’s 911 service. All operators are busy helping other customers…” Aargh. Eventually, I got the fire department to show up, but well before they got there, it was probably a lost cause. The hood release wire burned out and the fire department had to use an axe to get a hose under the hood. Basically, the engine went up in flames and I never drove my car again. Sad times. I blame the Chili Peppers. But hey, “Catholic School Girls Rule” is a jam.
